CORTLAND MANOR, NY – When Walter Panas senior guard Brandon Hodge scored nine points in the first quarter of the sectional quarterfinal game against Poughkeepsie, you knew something big was about to happen. Hodge finished with 38 points, leading his team to a 73-66 win over Poughkeepsie in the Class A Sectional tournament. Behind Hodge’s quick start, Panas jumped out to a 16-11 lead after the first quarter. The Pioneers made it interesting, cooling Hodge’s jets in the second and limiting him to just a three pointer and a free throw while Jaquan Pearson and Tremell Reaves started heating up for Poughkeepsie.
It was 30-27 at halftime, Panas holding on to a slim lead.
Hodge exploded in the third quarter for 12 points and Panas outscored the visitors 25-14 to take a commanding 55-41 lead into the final frame.
Poughkeepsie made a run for it in the 4th scoring a solid 23 points, but the damage was already done .
I just came out here to be aggressive”, said Hodge. “I knew they play aggressive so you have to match aggression with aggression, that’s all you can do.”
Brandon Ramps finished with 15 for Panas. Pearson lead Poughkeepsie with 23 points.
