WALLKILL – The last 4.9 seconds of the Millbrook vs Wallkill boys lacrosse game was as thrilling as it gets. With the score tied at 7, the Blazers called a time out with under five seconds remaining in regulation. When play resumed, Lucas Rau started the final seconds off the right flank and headed towards the center of the field, up high. Guarded closely by four Wallkill defenders, Rau fired the ball across his body, towards the net. The ball bounced about five yards ahead of Dillon Jovell in goal and whizzed by his right ear into the goal for the game winner.
Up to that point, the game was relatively tight. Millbrook had a 5-3 lead until Alex Lewis scored a goal just before the first half ended. The Panthers scored quickly to start the second half when Marc Gagliardi fired for a score to tie the game at 5.
Millbrook came back with two goals, but Wallkill answered back with two of its own, leaving the game tied at seven with 9:12 minutes left to play.
Matt Castagnozzi had 24 saves in this one, 11 of those saves came in the 4th quarter.
Jovell had seven saves.
Millbrook travels to Rondout Valley on Tuesday for a non-league game; Wallkill hosts FDR on Monday.
