Arlington Girls Back in the Sectional Final on Sunday

FREEDOM PLAINS – The Arlington girls soccer team has been nothing shy of perfect throughout the season and the post season with two shut out wins this week to put the Admirals in the Section 1 Class AA championship game on Sunday at 11 a.m., against number two seed North Rockland.

Arlington shut out Clarkstown South on Thursday 2-0 to advance.

Kelly Coster scored from an assisted by Kate Murphy, less than ten minutes into the game in what proved to be the game winner in a game that Arlington basically controlled from start to finish.

In the second half second half the Vikings came out strong putting pressure on the defense but Arlington worked through it and were able to adjust.

It was in this half that Ava Allen scored  her first goal of the season to seal the game when Sofia Germano found her outside the 18.

ARLINGTON WINS QUARTERFINAL GAME IN OT

Earlier in the week, in a quarterfinal thriller,  Arlington shutout Scarsdale in overtime 1-nil.

Kelly Coster got a head on a cross from Casey Stowell that was trying be to cleared by Scarsdale.

It was a very back and forth game between two evenly matched team with either team showing dominance.

Cassie Coster had an amazing game in goal with 6 saves. 3 stops were game ending shots that Cassie was able to stop.

Bryn Thompson, Kate Murphy and Casey Granger continued to played great defense to keep the Admirals in the game and eventually notch the team’s ninth shutout of the season.

ARLINGTON VS NORTH ROCKLAND, THE REMATCH

The first meeting between Arlington and North Rockland resulted in a 2-2 tie.  North Rockland scored first and led 1-0 at halftime.  Casey Stowell scored on an assist from Sydney Cannan to put the game at a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation.  In the fist OT, Sofia Germano ripped a shot from the top of the 18 to give Arlington a 2-1 lead but with minutes remaining in the second OT the Red Raiders scored on a self goal.  That game was played on September 15th at North Rockland.  It was Arlington’s fifth game of the season.  Plenty has changed for both team’s since their last meeting.  Nirth Rockland is the number two seed in the sectional playoffs.  The Red Raiders are 12-3-1 .  Expect one of the best girls championship soccer games on Sunday morning where Arlington will have home field advantage.
